Title

Durgo valve failed. Can I replace with LapVent?

Because of the well insulated loft, the snow on the roof has not melted - except for a straight line up the tiles above the Durgo air inlet valve on the top of the soil pipe. This teminates in the loft space.
The snow-melt and an occasional bad odour in the bathroom seems to point to the Air Admittance Valve (AAV) having failed and allowing continuous venting of sewer gases into the loft.

As Durgo valves can fail, I am faced with four possible solutions to the problem:

1. Try to free the stuck valve by spraying some silicon up inside (if the silicon will reach to the stuck part).

2. Buy and fit a new AAV - a cheap enough option, but liable to fail again? or

3. Extend the soil pipe out through the roof in the traditional style - a very expensive job as the tiles would need to be breached.

4. Use your extractor vent system with a very short length of flexi-hose from the pipe to the Lapvent and release the gases

Your opinion will be welcome, please.
